Takedown Policy

Your right to say “no” to your own photos: how it works, what the consequences are, and why we built this feature.

Why this takedown feature exists

Kepoto is built on one principle: your face belongs to you, not to someone else's business. The consent (opt-in) you give upfront isn't a permanent contract. Indonesia's PDP Law No. 27/2022 gives everyone the right to withdraw consent for processing their personal data at any time, and the right to one's own likeness belongs to every person in a photo — not just to whoever took it.

The “This is me, I object” button is that right made real: one tap, no long forms, no waiting on customer service replies. We deliberately made the process as easy as giving consent, because withdrawing consent shouldn't be harder than giving it.

What happens when you press the button

The outcome depends on who else is in the photo:

You're alone in the photo

The photo is permanently deleted from Kepoto. The original file is destroyed from storage, not just hidden. Every buyer of that photo is automatically fully refunded.

Other people are in the photo

Your face is permanently blurred in the photo file, but the photo itself stays for the other people who also appear in it. Your right to object is honored without erasing someone else's memory.

In both cases, your face data tied to that photo (the matching embedding) is deleted too, so that photo will never be matched to your face again. This process cannot be undone.

Exception: if a photo contains only your own face and you're the one who bought it, the takedown button isn't available for that photo. You knowingly bought your own portrait, so deleting it via takedown would only cancel your own purchase.

Consequences for buyers & photographers

We believe transparency means being upfront about who bears what:

  • If the photo is fully deleted: every buyer is automatically fully refunded, and the photographer's earnings from that photo are reversed. The photographer receives a notification email along with the takedown reason (if provided).
  • If the face is blurred: the photo stays for sale and other people's existing purchases remain valid, with no refund, since the photo itself wasn't withdrawn. Two exceptions: purchases made during the grace period, and your own purchase (if you'd bought this photo too) are still automatically fully refunded. Re-downloading after this process will get the already-blurred version.

Grace period for high-value photos

Photos with total sales of Rp200,000 or more aren't executed instantly: your takedown is recorded immediately, but executed automatically after a 24-hour grace period. The photographer is notified right away, giving them a chance to reach out if something seems off (e.g. a mismatched face).

The grace period doesn't cancel your takedown right, it only delays it. Once 24 hours have passed, execution proceeds automatically with no action needed from you.

Fair usage limits

Every account is limited to a maximum of 3 takedowns per 30 days. Takedowns have a real impact on a photographer's earnings (refunds), so this limit keeps the feature a privacy protection tool rather than a way to deliberately hurt photographers.

Found more than 3 problematic photos in a month? That's not normal, and we want to know about it. Reach us via Profile → Send Feedback, and our team will follow up directly without reducing your takedown allowance.

Every takedown is logged in an internal audit trail as proof of compliance, and you can view your own action history in the Privacy Center.
